Evidence-Based Champions Conference
Article Outline
A profession has a fundamental obligation to its members to ensure that they embrace the process of lifelong learning and continuous education. Keeping up-to-date with new research and critically reading and understanding the literature can be a daunting task for health care professionals. Adopting an evidence-based approach can help ease the burden for busy clinicians and ensure they are staying current with the latest findings, internalizing what it means for them and their patients, and, if warranted, implementing what they have learned into their daily practice.
Encouraging clinical dentists to attend a training weekend at ADA Headquarters and then become Champions for Evidence-Based Dentistry was a brave and novel approach to spread the news and provide ongoing peer-to-peer continuing education. Given the overwhelming response for attending this conference, there was clearly a lot of interest and excitement to learn more about how to distill down the principles of evidence-based decision making into practical applications that can be shared with colleagues on an ongoing basis.
Procter & Gamble was delighted to support the first Evidence-Based Champions Conference through an unconditional educational grant. The organizing committee is to be congratulated on bringing together a group of knowledgeable and motivating individuals whose enthusiasm could create the foundation for sharing the principles of evidence-based dentistry and demonstrating the advantages of such an approach to the clinician, the patient, and the whole dental team. We are looking forward to honoring our commitment to support 2 additional conferences so that we can continue driving awareness and implementation of evidence-based decision making into dental practices around the world.
