Purpose

The ALD2 and ALDH2 genes are implicated in alcohol metabolism. Polymorphisms of these genes, common in Asian populations, slow alcohol metabolism. Because alcohol intake has been related to periodontitis, the authors wanted to test the periodontitis-alcohol relation within levels of polymorphisms of these genes.
